Harm Reduction Therapy in Pacifica, CA

What is Harm Reduction Therapy?

As a harm reduction therapist, I have undergone a three-year training internship at the Harm Reduction Therapy Center (HRTC), to become specialized in working with you to address the the intersection of addiction and psychological issues in your life. Here is HRTC's description of this innovative approach to increasing personal awareness re: addictive tendencies:

"Harm Reduction Therapy is a revolutionary client-therapist collaboration that combines substance abuse treatment with psychotherapy, so clients can address both their substance use and the issues that are behind it.

In Harm Reduction Therapy, the therapist challenges the client to lay out, clearly and honestly, the harm being done to themselves and to others.  The client, or the client and family together, choose the most urgent issues on which to focus.  Together, client and therapist then work to reduce the harm that is being done, establishing goals and implementing gradual, realistic steps to achieve them.

Unlike traditional “quit now and forever” treatment programs, Harm Reduction Therapy does not ask that clients stop all substance use, unless that is their goal.

But Harm Reduction Therapy does not turn a blind eye to harmful client behaviors.  Recognizing and reducing the harmful impacts of substance-related behaviors is a cornerstone of Harm Reduction Therapy.  This is a pragmatic, real-world treatment program with a proven track record of positive results."
